Daniele De Rossi Concedes Defeat In Title Race

Roma midfielder Daniele De Rossi reckons that the Giallorossi have to set the bar a little lower and forget about a Serie A title bid after a goalless draw with AC Milan.

The result leaves the Lupi six points adrift of leaders Inter, who have a game in hand, and the Italian international told the Roma Channel after the match: “We must not lead our fans on. We have done exceptionally well, but we had to win them all in order to catch Inter and that was impossible.

“We are six points behind them, but they are not within our reach for this season. We are just rediscovering our consistency and a concept of team we had misplaced.”

De Rossi led Roma out again last night in the prolonged absence of talisman Francesco Totti, but added: “I hope to be a captain for just a little while, because it would mean that we get an influential and lethal player like Totti back.”

Totti is still on the sidelines with a lingering knee problem and it’s unclear whether he will available for next weekend’s trip to Livorno. (goal.Com/AS)
